I am a student of M King Hubbert, the grandfather of the modern peak oil movement.  I think it is essential that industrial society understands its history of over-reliance on scarce resources and in particular oil, as well as the deep-set denial about the ramifications of that over-reliance, the outright refusal to accept that limits exist, and the political inertia that has muted virtually all response attempts over the past half century. The exceptional accomplishments and life experience of M. King Hubbert tell this story better than fiction and needs to be ubiquitously known. On this 50th anniversary of his seminal speech, we salute Hubbert for his bravery and persistence, as well as his brilliance, and recognize him for being the epitome of a true American hero.
